Cuban sandwich
Cuban bread, roast pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles and mustard, pressed flat and crisp. Tampa's version adds Genoa salami. Order it with a cafecito in Little Havana.
- Look for a ventanita (walk-up window)
- Ask for it pressed (a la plancha)

New Haven apizza
Thin, charred, oblong pies from coal-fired ovens. Frank Pepe's (open since 1925) made the white clam pie famous; Sally's and Modern are the other classics.
- Say "ah-BEETZ"
- "Mootz" means mozzarella; plain pies have none

Stone crab claws
Served cold and cracked with mustard sauce. Only the claws are harvested and the crab goes back in the water to regrow them. Joe's Stone Crab in Miami Beach has served them since 1913.
